Chess Club

By Noah White

At MSGA, students participate in a club hour on Fridays starting at 1:00. One of the clubs is the Chess Club, where adventurers and innovators participate in games of chess either online or against one another, depending on if there is an even or odd number of people that day. Sometimes, people in the club teach each other different strategies, openings, and counters. Other times, they simply practice against each other.

Similar to most of the other clubs, Chess Club goes to monthly competitions. Some tournaments happen more frequently than others, but the monthly competitions are mandatory to all registered teams. This monthly tournament is located at the Memphis Chess Club, a place where you can study, do your homework, get some food, or play in a chess tournament. So if your student is interested in playing chess or attending competitions, and you have a few dollars to spare, the MSGA chess club may be just the thing for them.

  1. I think it is awesome that students have the opportunity to learn and play chess. I wish this had been available when I was in school.
